Magnetar Ski

A surf ski for the serious racer or just to have fun and challenge yourself in the ocean

Lyttelton Harbour is the perfect testing ground for developing a new surf ski. The harbour has fast-flowing tidal conditions, fresh winds, and plenty of islands and craggy outcrops to add variety to water conditions.

In this challenging environment I have been perfecting a high performance surf ski. I started with the 6.2m Magnetar hull, which is quickly gaining a name for speed yet still being stable in rough water.

Then it was a matter of perfecting the seat, drainage, foot pedals and so on for a top quality ski configuration. It’s been a long process, with many different things tried out, refined, and refined again. I’ve made lots of trips to Lyttelton!

I always like to think beyond what the others are doing, and there’s innovation in the carbon Magnetar Ski rudder. From the seat, in a few seconds, you can pull the rudder in, or let it out, to add stability or enhance water speed, or to deal with shallow water.

The result is definitely worth the wait. The new Magnetar Ski handles predictably even when the water turns to a churn, and it’s quick enough to really catch the waves. It’s a boat for racing and playing with confidence, and having a pile of fun. It looks every bit the speedster, with a shiny black carbon finish, apart from the seat (so on a hot day you don’t burn your bum!)

Why do things the same old way? It’s much better in a Magnetar Ski!
